A search of civil registrations in Ireland 1875 - 1885 turned up 4, none of which matched the alleged parents.

1899 On Thursday, August 10, John Carty and Mary McAtee were married at the R.C. Chapel, Stane, Cam'nethan [St Patrick's] after Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.26 at Stane on August 12.
John was a Bachelor, gave his age as 30, occupation Coal Miner and usual residence Tarbothie, Cam'nethan. His parents are recorded as Francis Carty, Labourer and Margaret Carty m.s. McCaffery.
Mary was a Spinster, gave her age as 20, no occupation recorded and usual residence Stane, Cam'nethan. Her parents are recorded as John McAtee, Furnace Filler and Mary McAtee m.s. Maceabe.
The celebrant was Hugh Kelly and the witnesses were Mick Carty and Lizzie Rooney.

1908 Mary Carty was born at 4h0m a.m. on Wednesday, July 1 at 16 Tarbothie, Stane, Cambusnethan to Mary Carty m.s. McAtee and John Carty, Coal Miner who married on August 10, 1899 in Calderhead [District]. Her birth was registered No.182 at Stane on July 11 by John Carty, Father, Present.
Sadly, Mary died in 1915, aged 6.
1911 April 2 The family were living at 16 McNalis [McNally's?] Land in Tarbothie in a house with 2 windowed rooms.

Her parents are recorded as John Carty, Colliery Labourer and Mary Carty m.s. McAtee. Her death was registered No.21 at Stane on the same day by John Carty, Father, Present.
1917 On December 13, John registered the death of his mother, Margaret, giving his own address as 14 Braeside Terrace, Fauldhouse.
