1881 April 3 In the Census of 1881, at 70 Omoa Square (next door to the Reynolds family) there dwelt:-

1881 On Monday, September 5, Patrick Smyth and Catherine Reynolds were married at the R.C. Chapel, Cleland [St Mary's], Shotts Parish after Banns according to the forms of the R.C. Church. The marriage was registered No.11 at Cleland [West District of Shotts] on September 7.
Patrick was a Bachelor, gave his age as 22, occupation Coalminer and usual residence Omoa Square. His parents are recorded as William Smyth, Pithead Labourer and Anne Smyth, m.s. McMann.
Catherine was a Spinster, gave her age as 22, occupation Brickworker and usual residence also Omoa Square. Her parents are recorded as Patrick Reynolds, Coalminer and Ellen Reynolds m.s. Connelly.
The celebrant was Fr. Thomas Moran and the witnesses were John Reynolds [probably Patrick's cousin] and Rose Ann Strain.

Thomas born in 1891 at Omoa Square, last sighting 1911. William (2) born in 1893 at Omoa Square, last sighting 1911. Michael born in 1895 at Omoa Square, last sighting 1911. Jane born in 1897 at Omoa Square, last sighting 1911. John born in 1901 at Stable Row, Cleland, last sighting 1911. which tallies with the 1911 census count.

1885 Mary Ann Smyth was born at 6h0m a.m. on Sunday, May 24 at Wyndedge Farm, Shotts Parish to Catherine Smyth m.s. Reynolds and Patrick Smyth, Quarryman who married on September 5, 1881 at Cleland, Shotts Parish. Her birth was registered No.49 at Cleland on June 4 by Patrick Smith, Father.
Mary Ann married James Glass in 1905 in St. Mary's, Cleland.
1887 William Smyth was born at 11h0m a.m. on Sunday, February 6 at Spoutscroft, Shotts Parish to Catherine Smyth m.s. Reynolds and Patrick Smyth, Quarryman who married on September 5, 1881 at Cleland, Shotts Parish. His birth was registered No.20 at Cleland on February 23 by Patrick Smith, Father.
Sadly, he died on May 15, 1892 aged 5 years.

1890 Ellen Smyth (Single) died at 11h10m p.m. on Sunday, December 14 at 4 Omoa Square, Shotts Parish, age 5 months, of Bronchitis after 14 days, as certified by James Duncan, M.B.C.M. 1907 On Friday, October 25, Patrick married Agnes McDermott at St. Mary's, Cleland. [See Section SM-7-1 for further information.]
This was quite a family affair. Agnes was the sister of Annie, Ellen and Rosina who married Patrick's uncles John, Joseph and Francis Reynolds.

Hugh Logan, M.B.Ch.B. His parents are recorded as William Smyth, General Labourer and Ann Smyth m.s. McMahan, both deceased. His death was registered No.42 at Cleland on the same day by Patrick Smyth, Son, 5 Dandy Row, Cleland.
1913 Catherine Smyth, Widow of Patrick Smyth, Coal Miner, died at 4h30m a.m. on Thursday, October 16 at Stable Row, Cleland, age 49 years [she was nearer 55], of Carcinoma of Stomach after 7 months, as certified by Geo. Hugh Logan, M.B.Ch.B. Her parents are recorded as Patrick Reynolds, Coal Miner and Ellen Reynolds m.s. Connelly, both deceased. Her death was registered No.71 at Cleland on the same day by Patrick Smyth, Son, Dandy Row, Cleland, Present.
