James and Mary had been married for 19 years and produced 9 children of whom 7 were still living, the exceptions being Margaret (1896 - 1901) and James (1905). I think this is another case where the parents have interpreted "living" as "living at home" since Sarah (age 17) is missing.

[There is a 17 year old Sarah Carty, a Servant in Govanhill, Glasgow (644/16 Book 25 Page 14): her birthplace is given as Glasgow but there are only two Sarah Cartys in the birth index for Lanarkshire between 1891 and 1895, one in Calderhead in 1893 (ours) and one in Shotts West in 1895 (655/3-108).]

John and Mary [McAtee] were not far away in the same community, while their parents were in Stane with Michael and Joseph, with Catherine and John [McAllister] next door but one. Bernard and Ellen [Reynolds] and Francis and Elizabeth [McGeachie] had moved a few miles to Fauldhouse.
