Ellen Reynolds was born on August 16, 1877 in Newarthill, Lanarkshire to Mary Lafferty (1855 - 1932) and Richard Reynolds (c1848 - 1917) [See Section RS-6-1 for family background.]
1895 On Friday, February 15, Bernard Carty and Ellen Reynolds were married at the R. C. Chapel, Stane [St. Patrick's], Cambusnethan after Banns according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.13 at Stane (District of Calderhead) on February 18.
Bernard was a Bachelor, gave his age as 19, occupation Coal Miner and usual residence Torbothie, Cambusnethan. His parents are recorded as Francis Carty, Coal Miner and Maggie Carty, m.s. McAffery.
Ellen was a Spinster, age 17, occupation Farm Servant and usual residence the Water Wheel, Rosehall, Shotts. Her parents are recorded as Richard Reynolds, Coal Miner and Mary Reynolds, m.s. Laferty [sic].
The celebrant was Fr. Peter Forbes and the witnesses were John Carty (probably Bernard's brother) and Mary Reynolds (probably Ellen's sister).

Francis (1) born in 1903 at 14 Torbothie, Shotts and died in 1906. Bernard (1) born in 1905 at 8 Torbothie, Shotts and died just 30 minutes later. Bernard (2) born in 1906 at 8 Torbothie, Shotts, last sighting 1911. Patrick born in 1908 at 23 Torbothie, Shotts, last sighting 1911. John born in 1910 at 23 Torbothie, Shotts, last sighting 1939. Jane born in 1912 in East Benhar, Fauldhouse. Francis (2) born in 1914 in East Benhar, Fauldhouse. James born in 1915 in East Benhar, Fauldhouse. William born in 1917 at 50 Braeside Terrace, Fauldhouse. Joseph born in 1917 at 50 Braeside Terrace, Fauldhouse. which tallies with the 1911 census count.
1895 Margaret Carty was born at 8h0m p.m. on Saturday, June 15 at Hawkwoodburn [about ½ mile south of Dykehead], Shotts to Ellen Carty m.s. 1914 Maggie Stoddart (Illegitimate) was born at 10h30m a.m. on Monday, December 21 at East Benhar, District of Fauldhouse to Maggie Carty, Farm Servant and Charles Stoddart, Ploughman. Her birth was registered No.1 at Fauldhouse on January 4, 1915 by Maggie Carty, Mother and Charles Stoddart, Father, South Couston, Bathgate.
Sadly, Maggie died a month later.
1915 Maggie Stoddart (Single) (Illegitimate) died at 1h40m p.m. on Sunday, January 24 at East Benhar, District of Fauldhouse, age 1 month, of Congenital Debility as certified by Robert Gilchrist, M.B.Ch.B. Her parents are recorded as Charles Stoddart, Ploughman and Maggie Carty, Farm Servant. Her death was registered No.10 at Fauldhouse on the following day by Ellen Carty, Grandmother, Present.
Margaret married John Tonner in 1919.
1899 Richard Carty was born at 9h0m a.m. on Monday, April 10 at the Water Wheel, Dykehead, Shotts to Ellen Carty m.s. Rannalds [sic] and Bernard Carty, Coal Miner who married on February 15, 1895 in Calderhead District. His birth was registered No.64 at Stane on April 18 by Bernard Carty, Father.
Richard married Jeannie Keatings in 1921 in Shotts.

1903 Francis Carty was born at 11h0m a.m. on Saturday, April 4 at 14 Torbothie, Cam'nethan to Ellen Carty m.s. Reynolds and Bernard Carty, Coal Miner who married on February 15, 1895 in Calderhead District. His birth was registered No.89 at Stane on April 8 by Bernard Carty, Father, Present.
Sadly, Francis died in 1906 aged 3 years.

Sadly, Joseph lived for only three weeks.

1939 Helen Carty, Married to Bernard Carty, Coal Miner, died at 8h20m a.m. on Sunday, January 29 at Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh (usual residence 50 Braeside Terrace, Fauldhouse), age 61 years, of Diabetes Mellitus, Gangrene of the foot, as certified by Chalmers H. Davidson, M.B. Her parents are recorded as Richard Reynolds, Coal Miner and Mary Reynolds m.s. Lafferty, both deceased. Her death was registered No.151 at Edinburgh [George Square District] on the following day by John Carty, Son, 50 Braeside Terrace, Fauldhouse.
